Updated: Dec 8, 2023

There are some things in life that you enjoy doing or receiving last. Like eating your favorite dessert after a fulfilling meal. Or, receiving a promotion, after being recognized for meeting all of the expectations of a new role. Or, celebrating retirement after 20 to 40 years of dedicated service.

There are some tasks or projects that you enjoy doing and completing until the end. This is true about today's post. We have enjoyed sharing information about the Medigap Benefit Plans but we are ending our series discussion today with Plan N---the last Medigap Plan.

Plan N includes all of the benefits that are included in Plan M, with a few differences. "Plan N pays 100% of the Part B coinsurance, except for a copayment of up to $20 for some office visits and up to a $50 copayment for emergency room visits that don't result in an inpatient admission." In addition, Plan N pays 100% of the Part A deductible but Plan M pays 50% of the Part A deductible. See Plan N Benefits below:

Medigap Plan N benefits:

  • 100%. Medicare Part A coinsurance and hospital costs (up to an additional 365 days after Medicare benefits are used)

  • 100%. Medicare Part B coinsurance or copayment (see the highlighted information above)

  • 100%. Blood (first 3 pints)

  • 100%. Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayment

  • 100%. Skilled nursing facility care coinsurance

  • 100%. Part A deductible

  • 0%. Part B deductible

  • 0%. Part B excess charge

  • 80%. Foreign travel emergency (up to plan limits)

We can also see how many people are participating in Plan N. In December 2021, there were 1,384,304 Medicare enrollees in Plan N. For the state of Maryland, there were 37,849 enrollees and for the state of North Carolina, there were 32,239 enrollees.

Based on the total Medicare enrollees above, Plan N has the 3rd largest number of enrollees. Plan F has the largest number of enrollees and Plan G has the second largest number of enrollees. (Click on links to see previous posts.) Plan N may not be the best plan or the number one Plan but it is definitely one of the best Plans.
